The mission of the Michigan Firehouse Museum and Education Center is to educate visitors about fire safety. The museum features a restored 1898 firehouse, as well as a new modern addition with multiple exhibits. It’s located at 110 W Cross St, Ypsilanti, MI 48197. The museum houses fire trucks from all over Michigan, including those from Battle Creek, Escanaba, Kalamazoo, Saline, and Scio Township. Some of the most notable trucks on display include a 1917 American LaFrance Type 31 and a 1916 Triple Combination Pumper. In addition, the museum features rare fire grenades from the early 1900s.

The museum also holds paranormal conventions and events. The museum has hosted Para-Con, a paranormal convention in December 2018. There will be panel discussions and a midnight ghost hunt. During this convention, you’ll be able to meet local paranormal investigators and learn about their methods.
The Michigan Firehouse Museum and Education Center is open to the public 16 hours a week. The museum attracts 6,000 visitors a year. These visitors include former firefighters, Boy Scouts, and schoolchildren. The museum also welcomes visitors from other fire museums. The museum’s founder, Al Dyer Jr., envisioned the museum as an education center and fire safety training center. Dyer also hoped the museum would serve as a venue for events.
MiSci features exhibits and events for all ages. The museum also houses the only immersive domed IMAX(r) theater in Michigan. The museum features two or three exhibitions annually. The IMAX, which is currently closed, will be back in action this spring.
The museum is very educational and has a friendly staff. The staff is very friendly and engaged with the children. Their siren was a particular highlight. The admission price is also reasonable. It’s worth visiting if you have some time to spare. The museum is open daily from sunrise to sundown.
