Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is home to more than 32,000 artifacts, including original artwork and documents from the African Diaspora. It is located at 315 E Warren Ave, Detroit, MI 48201. Throughout our collection you can experience history come to life with stories about the lives of people who lived in Indiana through the lens of art. Our Storytelling Center offers a variety of programs throughout the year that allow you to explore and appreciate African American culture and history. Who We Are
The Museum is named after Charles H. Wright, who in 1941 started collecting black Americana to document the African American experience. Wright’s collection is the largest and most comprehensive in the country, with more than 32,000 artifacts, including original artwork and documents from the African Diaspora.
Admission Fees and Hours
Daily admission fees to the Museum are $12 for adults and $3 for youth ages 3–17, seniors age 65 and older, and people with disabilities. Children ages 2 and younger are free. Admission prices are subject to change. The Museum is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Closed on Mondays and Federal holidays. The Museum is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
